Portugal Day 3

On day 3 of our trip in Portugal we were headed to the coast...Sintra, Cascais, and Cabo da Roca.  We had Adrianna again to take us around and a private driver.  With four kids, private tours are always better!

Our first stop was Sintra where we were to visit the Pena Palace.  We parked and then had to take a trolley to the top of the mountain.

The palace is of course gorgeous, but also very different from any that we've seen.  It's colorful and the architecture is very "romantic."  The site was first a chapel and then a monastery that was both damaged by lightening and then by the massive earthquake.  In the 1840s, King Ferdinand decided to build a palace on the site.  They kept the monastery remains intact (the reddish colored portion of the palace) and built around it using a mixture of different styles.

It was Halloween day so the skeleton sweatshirt was a must!

The turrets were fun.

The views of Lisbon were amazing!

The palace is actually built on rock and here you can see that it was built around the rock.

View of the Castle of the Moors.

He hasn't even seen the movie.......you know which one I'm talking about!

"Yes, I am a stinker"

We were taking these pics of Emerson and everyone around us would smile and laugh at her.  A few even took their own pics of her.  She's a showoff!

Those two are planning something......

Drake was upset (I'm sure he got in trouble) and Mike was doing shadow puppets trying to make him laugh.  As if we don't get stared at enough over here....

Cheesin!

We toured inside the palace too....again, Mike with the camera :/

This was the queen of the palace.....not sure if it's a he or a she????

Gran and Pres on the Queen's balcony

They are really into what Adrianna is saying.....

He's mad again....

Then we drove through fancy Cascais to look at the beautiful houses.

Drake and his cork hat.  Cork is huge in Lisbon and kind of pricey.  You can buy anything made from cork and it's waterproof!

Cabo da Boca
Our last stop was here at the westernmost point of continental Europe.  It was beautiful!  Extremely windy (as you can see by our hair blowing like crazy) and cold, but the sun was shining!!

Poor Kade was really sick all day.  He and Daddy even stayed with the driver for a bit while I shopped.  He was a trooper!

Adrianna with Preslee.  She was great and the kids liked her a lot!

That's a BIG yawn Kade!

We're here!

And so is Gran!  It was a great day!

And then we end the day watching Honey BooBoo...really?  We don't have much American TV in Belgium and this is the first time I've seen this show.  I just thought...no wander Europeans think Americans are CRAZY!  Hahaha!  Emerson liked it :)
