Normandy

The place we stayed was near Omaha Beach.  It was a decent place and had a pool, so the kids were happy.  After we arrived and got settled, we decided to try to find somewhere to eat.  That became a little difficult....  We drove around and finally found a McDonalds (not our first choice but it would do).  It was so busy we couldn't believe it!  The drive-thru line was extremely long and it was crazy inside.  We decided to try to find somewhere less exciting.  Finally found a little pizza window, not sure what else to call it...there were two guys making pizzas and selling them out the window.  Well, they said it would be 30 min for a pizza but they had two already done that were not sold.  Of course they weren't plain cheese, the only thing the kids would eat, but we decided to take them.  Then found out that the guys gave them to the people behind us before we could decide....so much for that!  We just went back to our hotel and ate what we brought with us....thankful for peanut butter that night!
The next day we were off to Omaha beach to see the American memorial and cemetery.  We first went to the little city center to try to find some breakfast.  It was early (probably 10:00, so not that early) and there wasn't much open.  We also decided that it was low season, so there really wasn't much open all day (we ended up at McDonalds for lunch...oh well, the kids were happy).  We found a little restaurant that had just opened.  The menu looked good..crepes, omelettes, waffles etc.  Well, the only thing we could order were crepes.  We all ordered one except Preslee...not quite sure what she ordered but she ended up with basically a ham sandwich.  I still don't get when you can order what around here.  What we think is breakfast they think is lunch or snack and vice versa, so we just have to ask what we can and can't order at each restaurant.

Emerson ready to go!

We always love seeing our flag

The American cemetery was pretty amazing

I think Emerson is screaming in this picture.

Our next stop was Pointe Du Hoc.  This is the 100 meter high cliff that the US rangers climbed up to attack the Germans.  It is located between Omaha and Utah beaches.  It was surreal to see the damage done by bombs and to be on the actual spot where a major war was fought.

Preslee and Caroline in a bomb crater...they were everywhere.
